Shopify app development
Shopify app development for stores and products that need more than an App Store install
Some needs have no ready-made app: a rule your business runs on, a system that has to stay in sync, or a product you want to sell to other merchants. We are a Shopify app development agency that builds custom apps for a single store, public apps for the Shopify App Store, and the extensions and Functions that sit inside them.
Signs you need a custom Shopify app
You pay for three or four apps to cover one workflow, and they still don't talk to each other.
A discount, shipping or payment rule your business depends on can't be set up in Shopify or in any app you've tried.
Staff copy orders, stock or customer data between Shopify and another system by hand.
An old private app or admin-created custom app works, but nobody can extend it.
An app injects scripts that slow the storefront, and you only use a small part of it.
You have an idea for an app that other merchants would pay for.
A Shopify notice says something your app relies on is being retired.
What you need, and what we build
| What you need | What we build |
|---|---|
| What you need01Discount, shipping or payment logic that Shopify's settings can't express | What we buildA Shopify Function that runs inside Shopify's checkout, packaged in an app |
| What you need02A screen inside the Shopify admin for your team | What we buildAn embedded app with App Bridge and Shopify's admin components, or an admin UI extension on the page where the work happens |
| What you need03Something new on the storefront, without editing theme code | What we buildA theme app extension: app blocks and app embeds merchants place in the theme editor |
| What you need04Extra fields, upsells or messages at checkout or on the Thank you page | What we buildCheckout UI extensions, on the plans and pages where Shopify allows them |
| What you need05Shopify kept in sync with an ERP, warehouse, CRM or accounting system | What we buildAn integration app on the GraphQL Admin API with verified webhooks, a queue and a reconciliation job |
| What you need06Custom data on products, orders or customers | What we buildMetafields and metaobjects with definitions, and the admin screens to manage them |
| What you need07An app to sell on the Shopify App Store | What we buildA public app with OAuth, Shopify app billing, the required privacy webhooks and a listing prepared for review |
| What you need08An older app that needs to keep working | What we buildA move to the Dev Dashboard, the GraphQL Admin API and current extension types |
A Shopify app, scoped and shipped
A fixed-scope build for merchants and product teams who want one team to own the app from the first workflow to the release.
What we do
- A scope written around the workflow: who uses the app, what it changes in Shopify, and what it must never do
- A check of the App Store first, so you don't pay to build what a mature app already does
- The choice of distribution, custom or public, made at the start because it can't be changed later
- The build in Node.js and TypeScript with Shopify CLI, in your repository
- Access scopes kept to the minimum the app needs
- Testing on a development store, then a staged release to the live store
- For public apps: billing, the listing and App Store review support
What you get
- The app in your own Shopify organization and your own repository, with deployment set up
- Written documentation: what the app does, the scopes it uses, how to deploy it and how to roll back
- Monitoring for webhooks and background jobs, so failures reach a person
The scope depends on the workflows, the systems to connect and whether the app is custom or public. We quote after a first call and a look at the store.
The kinds of Shopify apps we build
Most projects are one of these, or a combination.
- 01
Custom apps for one store, or for several stores in one Shopify Plus organization. They skip App Store review and are billed to you directly.
- 02
Public apps for the Shopify App Store, with app billing, review requirements and the token and API rules that apply to public apps.
- 03
Shopify Functions for discounts, delivery and payment customization, and cart and checkout validation. Functions in a custom app need Shopify Plus; on other plans they have to ship in a public app.
- 04
Theme app extensions and checkout UI extensions that replace script tags and theme edits.
- 05
Integration apps that connect Shopify to ERP, warehouse, CRM and accounting systems.
- 06
AI features inside an app, such as catalog enrichment or support drafting, with review steps before anything is published.
How it works
- 01
Scope
We map the workflow, check existing apps, and agree what the app does and which distribution it uses.
- 02
Build
We build on a development store with Shopify CLI, and show working versions as we go.
- 03
Test
We test with real orders, products and edge cases, and review the access scopes.
- 04
Release
We install on the live store or submit to the App Store, then monitor webhooks and jobs.

Shopify app development questions
It designs, builds and maintains apps that extend Shopify: custom apps for one merchant, public apps for the App Store, and the Functions and extensions inside them. We scope the workflow, build the app in your repository, test it on a development store and release it.
A custom app is installed on one store, or on several stores in the same Shopify Plus organization, and doesn't go through App Store review. A public app is listed on the Shopify App Store, can be installed by any merchant and can charge through Shopify's billing. The distribution method can't be changed after you choose it.
No. Private apps were converted to custom apps in 2023, and since January 1, 2026 new custom apps are created in the Dev Dashboard, not in the Shopify admin. Existing admin-created apps keep working. Our guide to custom and public apps explains the options.
Not for most apps. Admin screens, integrations and theme app extensions work on any plan. The exception is Shopify Functions: a custom app that contains Functions needs Shopify Plus. On other plans, that logic has to come from a public app.
Check the App Store first. If an established app covers most of the need, a custom build rarely pays off. A custom app makes sense when the workflow is specific to your business, when several apps overlap badly, or when you need control of the data and the code.
Node.js and TypeScript with Shopify CLI and Shopify's app templates, the GraphQL Admin API, App Bridge for embedded admin screens, and Shopify Functions and extensions where the project needs them.
Yes. We review the code, the access scopes and the API version it uses, then move it to the Dev Dashboard, the GraphQL Admin API and current extension types where needed.
We build to Shopify's public app requirements, prepare the listing and handle the review feedback. Approval is Shopify's decision, so we can't promise an outcome or a date.
You do. The app lives in your Shopify organization and the code in your repository.
It depends on the workflows, the systems to connect and whether the app is custom or public. We quote after a first call and a look at the store.
Discuss your app
Tell us what the app should do, which store or stores it is for, and which systems it has to connect to. We'll reply with the scope and whether an existing app would do the job.
